David Mooney, Phd. is studying the mechanisms that enable cells to receive and react to chemical and mechanical signals, such as cell adhesion molecules and cyclic strains. These signals carry information that instructs cells to alter their behavior by changing their level of proliferation or area of specialization. By understanding the conditions under which these signals develop, the results of these studies will help David Mooney design new materials and devices that mimic the conditions needed to send specific orders to the body’s cells.
