Descriptive

Stylitics is a first-of-its-kind fashion insights company. The company tracks and analyzes actual offline clothing and purchase behavior, in real-time, by incentivizing people to log what they own, wear and buy. Incentives include game mechanics like rewards, levels, and points, as well as fashion features like virtual closets. Stylitics’ insights help fashion brands improve their marketing ROI, help media buyers allocate and spend more effectively, and help ad-supported media companies increase ad revenues through measurable audience analysis. The company’s revenue comes from subscription fees from clients, and revenue share.

Stylitics aims to enlist tens of thousands They help brands reconnect with consumers after the fragmentation of the fashion business due to fashion bloggers and online retail. Moreover, for traditional media companies, Stylitics battles the decline in ad revenue. They also help agencies to better advise clients through up-to-the-minute behavioral insights. Stylitics enjoys a huge market potential, with over 50,000 prospective clients in the U.S. alone.

Calling themselves the “Nielsen of Fashion,” Stylitics co-founders Rohan Deuskar, a 2011 Wharton MBA candidate and Zach Davis, noted in their presentation that, unlike the TV, healthcare or IT industries, there are few options for fashion business leaders to learn about consumer opinions and trends in real-time.

Deuskar, originally from Mumbai, India and Davis met while working at Wharton alumni company Vibes Media, a mobile marketing firm based in Chicago, IL. Deuskar’s involvement with the Wharton BPC began last year with his appointment as a member of the Wharton BPC organizing committee.

The company’s proprietary analytics have been developed at Berkeley and Wharton and include dozens of never-before-seen metrics. Stylitics has a staff of seven developers, designers and fashion advisors, led by an experienced team with years of relevant experience. Revenue is drawn from a demonstrated impact on ad revenue, a $150 billion annual market. The company has launched a beta product, won awards and received validation of the value proposition from leading fashion brands and media companies. Stylitics’ full program launches in August 2011.

With a goal of enlisting tens of thousands of consumers with a fun way to share their styles and opinions about style, Stylitics aims to attract user opinions through brand surveys, games, online tools and a sophisticated rewards program. While consumers benefit from organizing outfits and sharing their clothing perspectives through Stylitics, fashion brands and media buyers gain access to customizable reports requiring no technical knowledge or expensive infrastructure.

And the Winner Is…

On April 28, 2011 Stylitics won the 2011 Michelson Grand Prize in style at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. With their digital platform for behavioral analytics for the fashion industry, the student team won the $30,000 Michelson Grand Prize of the 2011 Wharton Business Plan Competition, where student finalists received more than $115,000 in combined cash prizes and in-kind legal/accounting services.

Prior to achieving the Wharton BPC’s top prize, Stylitics had already garnered some industry acclaim; the fashion insights company was also a nominee for the Fashion 2.0 Awards in November,2011.
